ScarWork
This method uses a delicate, gentle touch to change the quality of scars. Scars from accidents or operations heal very differently. Each scar is unique in its history and healing process. While some scars are soon barely visible and the surrounding tissue becomes soft and supple, some scars become hard, rigid, nodular, or even pulled inwards.
The invisible network of the scar can extend into deep layers of tissue, leading to restricted movement of the joints and surrounding tissue and sometimes also to functional disorders. Keyhole operations or drainage procedures occasionally cause canal-like scars in depth. Major abdominal operations, such as caesarean sections or organ operations, consist not only of the superficial scar in the skin but two to four scars, as each of the deeper tissue layers is closed separately.
ScarWork according to Sharon Wheeler gradually works its way from the outside into the deeper layers. The tissue changes through this special kind of touch. Recent studies confirm the spontaneous tissue changes in ultrasound images.
The duration of a session depends on the size and appearance of the scar. Small scars can be integrated into a Rolfing session, larg scars and very large scars require from one to several hours of work, applied in several sessions.
As licensed ScarWork Instructor, I am authorized by Sharon Wheeler to offer this work to cert. Rolfer®, structural integrators and other bodyworkers with more than one year of professional hands -on experience.
